WELCOME TO THE Stockholm+50 National Consultation: China

China is a key player in this process in light of its size, interests, and role in relevant sectors, such as renewables. China has the scale and capacity to deliver an impact on climate change at the domestic and global levels, becoming a game-changer. Since President Xi’s announcement of the 2030-2060 targets, climate change and biodiversity has received increased attention. Chinese authorities are formulating guidelines and identifying pathways to achieve these targets.  

The 1+N climate policy system, together with the upcoming sectoral action plans, is noteworthy and welcome. It complements and enriches the 14th five-year plan, providing valuable details and clarifications and a concrete roadmap for the 2030 and 2060 climate goals.  

Against this backdrop, UNDP China is hosting a High-level Policy Dialogue, Business Roundtable, and Youth Consultation aimed at conveying some of China’s key stakeholders for an exchange on advancing the discussion and actions around the opportunities to keep Paris 1.5℃ alive. This would include understanding and capitalizing on the nexus between climate, biodiversity, and common prosperity in support of China’s climate goals as well as SDGs attainment. Insights and key messages from these exchanges will feed into a report as input to shape the policy discourse during the international meeting in Stockholm in June 2022.
